Full day sightseeing
of Darjeeling which includes early morning sunrise view from Tiger
Hill ( 2585 m), visit the Ghoom Monastery built in 1850 by Lama
Sherab Gyatso, a monk from Mangolia. The main feature of this
Gelugpa monastery is the magnificent statue of Maitreya, “the
future Buddha” draped in white silk scarves of offerings called
Khadas. After breakfast visit the Himalayan Mountaineering
Institute and the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre where you can
see Tibetan craftsmen making traditional items like carpets,
woolen boots, wood carvings and leather goods. Overnight at hotel. |

Darjeeling/Pemayangtse

Transfer to
Pemayangtse entering Sikkim through Melli and passing through
the towns of Jorethang and Gayzing. Midway picnic lunch on
the banks of river Teesta. On arrival, check into hotel.
Overnight at hotel.

Visit Sangacholing
Monastery which is an hour’s walk from the hotel. Afternoon visit
the Pemayangtse Monastery located on top of a hillock. Built by
the patron saint of Sikkim, Lhatsun Chempo in the 17th century, it
is the paramount seat of the Byingmpa monasteries and regarded as
sikkim’s most prestigious centre of religious learning. Overnight
at the hotel. |

Pemayngtse/Khechopalri/Pemayangtse (29 kms – 1 ½ hrs approx.) |

This unusually calm
lake in the midst of a dense forest is considered very sacred. A
steep walk up a hillock takes you the Khechoplri Monastery which
still retains it’s originality in design and structure. Drive back
to Pemayangtse. Overnight at hotel. |

Pemayangtse/Gangtok

Transfer to Gangtok
en-route visiting the tea plantations and factory at Temi Tarku.
After picnic lunch at the tea garden continue drive to reach
Gangtok late in the afternoon. On arrival check into hotel.

Full day sightseeing
of the Enchey Monastery, Cottage Industries, The Research
Institute of Tibetology, Do-Drul Chorten and the Rumtek Monastery,
located 24 kms from Gangtok. It functions as the headquarters of
the Dharma Chakra Religious Centre. Also visit the Deer Park,
which houses the Himalayan Bear, The Tibetan vulture and various
species of deer. Evening drive to Gangtok. Overnight at hotel. |
